Texas A&M WR Mike Evans A “Real Possibility” For The Giants?

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that Texas A&M WR Mike Evans is a “real possibility” for the New York Giants at No. 12 overall.

  • Pauline admits that there is no guarantee that Evans will even be available by the time they are on the clock.
  • Pauline’s source believes New York will also consider one of the top offensive tackles with their first-round pick.

The Giants are not expected to re-sign WR Hakeem Nicks in the coming weeks, and even though they already have some decent receivers like Victor Cruz and Reuben Randle, it could be tough to pass on a guy like Evans at that point in the draft.

Evans put together a solid combine performance this past weekend, which included a forty time of 4.53 and a 37-inch vertical. At 6’5 and a wingspan of 35 1/8-inches, Evans catch radius really sets him apart from a very deep wide receiver draft class. The most common comparison being floated around for Evans is Buccaneeers WR Vincent Jackson.

The Bills and Lions, both drafting ahead of the Giants, could be in play for Evans as well. Assuming he’s off the board, it would make sense for them to target the best available offensive tackle like Pauline said. It seems unlikely at this point in time that either Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson will be available to them at No. 12, but Michigan OT Taylor Lewan is someone who has been mentioned a possible option for New York.

There’s clearly a long way to go in the draft process, but it looks like the Giants are in good position to walk away with a solid player in round one of this year’s draft.
