The latest on Stevie Johnson quotes a source stating that the Bills will probably not use the “Franchise Tag” on WR Stevie Johnson. The Franchise Tag would probably cost north of 9 million dollars for Johnson, and teams can start using them starting Monday. The Associated Press reports that the two are far apart as far as negotiations go.

Johnson had 76 catches for 1004 yards in 2011, his 2nd straight 75+ catch and 1000+ yards year. He had 26 more fantasy points than a “base-line” receiver in 2011, and was ranked as the 21st best receiver (he ranked 10th best in 2010) and 50th best overall player in fantasy. He was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2008 draft by the Bills.

The franchise tag would take about 9M but I don’t see him grabbing more than 7M in free agency..and that is stretching it a bit..Maybe this is who the bears should be targeting instead of Manningham, I think with someone like Cutler throwing him the ball he could easily get back up to the top 10-15 of wide receivers..How much do you think it will take to sign him?
