The Market For Chargers S Eric Weddle

Another NFL player that could benefit from the proposed change to free agency requirements is San Diego Chargers S Eric Weddle who would be a restricted-free agent if the NFL kept the requirements at six-years rather than four.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was asked about the possibility that he could end up playing for the Minnesota Vikings come next season. Schefter mentions a number of other teams that could have some amount of interest in signing him.

There are multiple teams that could use Weddle, and Minnesota would be included in that group. How about Dallas? How about Jacksonville? How about Cincinnati? How about Denver? How about San Diego itself? We could go on and on. The point is, it will come down to the team that most wants him (read: team most willing to pay him). He is a good player, a good leader and will draw plenty of interest on the open market,” writes Schefter.

I think that the Chargers would ideally like to keep Weddle but he hinted a few months back that was willing to test the market and was believed to have interest in the Dallas Cowboys. You could also throw in the Houston Texans as another team to watch considering that they are likely to lose Bernard Pollard and the secondary desperately needs help.

Weddle is the best available safety in this years free agent class and we have him listed as the No. 21 overall free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
