The Terrell Owens Market

During a sit-down interview ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, former Bengals WR Terrell Owens mentioned that he’ll be ready to play in “a month or less.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter doesn’t seem to optimistic that Owens will find much interest in his services.

Let’s remember that when he signed with Dallas, the only other interested team was Denver. When he signed with Buffalo, no one else was interested. Same with Cincinnati. There’s a couple morals there. There has been a limited market for T.O. for years. Now he’s another year older and coming off major knee surgery. Contenders will not want to disrupt their rhythm. Struggling teams won’t want to pay him. It’ll be a tough market. But as we’ve seen with him, it only takes one, which usually has been all that he has had.

A number of teams have brought in wide receivers for workouts in the past few weeks so you could cosinder the: Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans all as specualtive options as of right now.

You could also make the case for the Chicago Bears as they seem to be without a solid receiving option and Houston Texans who have just lost Andre Johnson for a few weeks.

Owens was very productive for the Bengals last season as he caught 72 balls for 983 yards before suffering a knee injury but the question will be whether or not teams feel that the distractions that come with signing him are worth it.
