Titans Activate Rookie RB David Cobb From I.R. & Waive QB Charlie Whitehurst

The Tennessee Titans announced Wednesday that they’ve activated rookie RB David Cobb from short-term injured reserve and waived veteran QB Charlie Whitehurst.

  • The Titans also signed OLB J.R. Tavai and TE Kevin Greene to their practice squad.

The Titans were expected to activate Cobb this week, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise, especially after they waived Terrence West recently.

Cobb, 22, was placed on injured reserve prior before the start of the season with a calf injury. He returned to practice last month, and the Titans were required to make a decision on him this week.

Whitehurst, 33, is in the final year of his  two-year, $4 million contract that included $2 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $2 million for the 2015 season, but he’ll have to pass through waivers before he can sign on with a team of his choosing.

This season, Whitehurst has appeared in one game, but didn’t attempt a single pass.
