Titans To Be “Very Active” In Free Agency, Alshon Jeffery A Likely Target For Them

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media mentioned on “Good Morning Football” that the Titans plan to be “very active” in free agency and plan to target receivers such as Alshon Jeffery.

Garafolo also confirmed that the 49ers and Eagles are likely to have interest in Jeffery as well, which should come as no surprise, considering that they’ve been linked to a number of free agent options for some time now.

As for the kind of money Jeffery could be targeting, Garafolo says that Jeffery is a clear winner following Antonio Brown‘s new extension with the Steelers in which he’ll make $17 million per year in terms of new money. Jeffery is unlikely to get that much money as a free agent, but he could command somewhere around $14 million per year.

Yesterday, Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears are not expected to use their franchise tag on Jeffery before tomorrow’s deadline.

It would’ve cost Chicago over $17 million fully guaranteed for the 2017 season to do so, which includes a 20 percent raise over the normal tag figure for a receiver because they franchised him last year.

Jeffery, 26, was taken in the second-round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Bears. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.54 million rookie contract that included a $1.74 million signing bonus before receiving the team’s franchise tag.

The franchise tag will run the Bears $14.599 million guaranteed for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Jeffery appeared in 12 games and caught 52  passes for 821 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Bears. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
