Titans An Option For Chip Kelly Now That He’s Been Fired By Eagles?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the Titans “make the most sense” for Chip Kelly now that he’s been fired by the Eagles.

There has been speculation for several months that the Titans could be an eventual landing spot for Kelly ever since they used the No. 2 overall pick on Kelly’s former quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Kelly made a serious attempt to trade up in this year’s draft to secure the rights to draft Mariota. However, Kelly wasn’t able to reach an agreement with Tennessee and eventually traded for Sam Bradford.

If the Titans were trade for Kelly, compensation was likely to be an issue. But with him being fired, it could change the Titans’ level of interest.

Ian Rapoport spoke with a high-level Titans source who told him a few weeks ago that Kelly wasn’t on his radar because he was under contract with the Eagles.

Of course, there’s always a chance that Tennessee may prefer to go in a different direction with their head-coaching job.

While Kelly is well respected for his offensive system, he’s also be a lightning rod for criticism when things didn’t work out.

Florio points out that Kelly was able to post two 10-win seasons with a group of quarterbacks that consisted of Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez. Beyond that, Florio writes that hiring Kelly would give them “something they’ve lacked for years: Relevance.

We’ll have more regarding Kelly’s future and the Titans’ head-coaching job as the news is available.
