Titans Gave QB Alex Tanney Pay Raise After Browns Tried To Sign Him

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Titans agreed to give QB Alex Tanney a pay raise up to $30,882.35 per week after the Browns attempted to sign him off of their practice squad.

Tanney is now being paid as though he was on the Titans’ 53-man roster, even though he’s still on their practice squad.

The Browns are obviously on the look out for potential quarterback options now that Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown are both out with injuries.

Cleveland has since signed veteran Charlie Whitehurst to their active roster.

Tanney, 28, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth back in 2012. Since then, he’s had brief stints with the Cowboys, Browns and Buccaneers, Titans, Bills and Colts before being signed to the Titans’ active roster at end of last year.

He was set to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season when the Titans cut him loose a few weeks ago. Tennessee later signed him to their practice squad.

In 2015, Tanney appeared in one game for the Titans and completed 10 of 14 pass attempts for 99 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
