Titans Have Reportedly Been Doing Their Homework On Jay Cutler

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Tennessee Titans began doing their homework on Bears QB Jay Cutler as soon as the news broke that he was being benched in favor of Jimmy Clausen.

Rapoport mentions that although Cutler would like to stay in Chicago, Nashville would be a “preferred location” for him given that he attended  Vanderbilt.

According to Rapoport, if the Titans were to trade for Cutler, it will have wide-ranging ramifications, especially on this year’s draft.

Earlier in the week, Joel Corry of the National Football Post took a look at the Bears options when it comes to a potential Cutler trade.

Corry points out that the Bears would benefit much more from trading Cutler rather than releasing him, given that Chicago would gain $12.5 million in cap space while taking on just $4 million dead space.

Corry also had the Titans among the teams that could have interest in a deal for Cutler. The other teams included the Rams, Buccaneers and Texans.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that several NFL executives believe the Bears may have to include a “decent” draft pick to trade Cutler next year.

This is, of course, due to the fact that Cutler has $25.5 million worth of guarantees remaining in his contract.

Cutler, 31, has completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 3,640 yards to go along with 28 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 quarterback out of 40 qualifying players.
