Titans Officially Exercise QB Marcus Mariota’s Fifth-Year Option

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Titans officially exercised QB Marcus Mariota‘s fifth-year option on Tuesday.

The fifth-year option will cost the Titans’ $20.922 million for the 2019 season. It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

Mariota, 24, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Titans back in 2015.  He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract that’s fully guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $2,636,270 to go along with another $3,736,905 next year.

In 2017, Mariota has appeared in 15 games and thrown for 3,232 yards while completing 62 percent of his passes to go along with 13 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He has also rushed for 312 yards and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
