Titans Open To Dealing Second Overall Pick

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has confirmed what has long been rumored-the Tennessee Titans are open to moving the number two overall pick in the draft, via Bryan Fischer.

This is a spot that could have a potential trade, especially if somebody wants to come up for Marcus Mariota,” Rapoport said on Monday’s Path to the Draft show. Rapoport added that the Titans “are open to trading but it would take a lot to actually make it happen.”

Rapoport made the obvious parallel to the Rams in 2012, when they moved down allowing Washington to select Robert Griffin III.

Tennessee certainly sits in an envious position.  Most draft experts believe that FSU QB Jameis Winston and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will be the first two picks, though it remains to be seen what team will be picking second.

Of course, if someone wants Mariota, they have only the Titans to deal with, giving Tennessee a strong negotiating position.

The Titans have several holes, and could take the consensus best defensive player in the draft in USC DL Leonard Williams, among others.

It will certainly take a substantial haul to move Tennessee out of the second spot.  They could select Mariota themselves, as quarterback is a need for them.  The team has publicly maintained their confidence in QB Zach Mettenberger, though the sixth-round product from LSU is far from a sure thing.
