Titans Could Part Ways With Chris Johnson, Nate Washington & Ryan Fitzpatrick?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports has talked to a single person in the NFL who expects RB Chris Johnson to be back with the Titans next season.

Johnson, 28, still has three years remaining on his six-year, $55.26 million contract. The Titans could save $4 million in cap space if they were to release him outright, according to OverTheCap.com. However, La Canfora mentions that Tennessee could boost that figure to $8 million by designating him as a post-June 1 cut.

Johnson opted to play out the season, despite the fact that he suffered a meniscus tear back in Week 3. He managed to go over the 1,000-yard mark for the sixth consecutive season and contributed 10 total touchdowns in 2013.

Nate Washington, 30, caught 58 passes for 919 yards and three touchdowns last season. The Titans stand to gain $4.8 million by releasing him, but there is a always a chance that he could agree to a pay cut next season.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, 31, appeared in 11 games for the Titans after Jake Locker was lost for the season.  He has a $2.75 million base salary in 2014, but the Titans could create another $3.25 million in cap space by releasing him, according to La Canfora.

I’m sure the Titans will consider their options with regards to cap space. However, Fitzpatrick’s contract is pretty reasonable for a backup, so unless they find a new starting quarterback, I think there is a decent enough chance that he could be back.
