Titans Place QB Marcus Mariota On Injured Reserve, Promote QB Alex Tanney

The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday that they’ve placed QB Marcus Mariota on injured reserve and promoted QB Alex Tanney to their active roster.

This comes as no surprise, considering that Mariota sustained a fractured fibula during Sunday’s game and will miss the remainder of the season.

Mariota, 23, is in the second year of his four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract that’s fully guaranteed. He is set to make a base salary of $1,535,635 this season to go along with another $2,636,270 next year.

In 2016, Mariota appeared in 15 games and recorded 3,426 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also accumulated 349 rushing yards on 60 attempts with two touchdowns and five lost fumbles.

Tanney, 29, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth back in 2012. Since then, he’s had brief stints with the Cowboys, Browns and Buccaneers, Titans, Bills and Colts before being signed to the Titans’ active roster at end of last year.

He was set to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season when the Titans cut him loose back in September. Tennessee later signed him to their practice squad after clearing waivers.

In 2015, Tanney appeared in one game for the Titans and completed 10 of 14 pass attempts for 99 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
