Titans Promote QB Alex Tanney, Starting Matt Cassel In Week 17

Titans HC Mike Mularkey announced that Monday that they’ve promoted QB Alex Tanney to the active roster and will start veteran QB Matt Cassel in their Week 17 finale.

It’s likely that Tanney will take QB Marcus Mariota‘s spot on the active roster after he’s placed on season-ending injured reserve with a fractured fibula.

Tanney, 29, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth back in 2012. Since then, he’s had brief stints with the Cowboys, Browns and Buccaneers, Titans, Bills and Colts before being signed to the Titans’ active roster at end of last year.

He was set to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season when the Titans cut him loose back in September. Tennessee later signed him to their practice squad after clearing waivers.

In 2015, Tanney appeared in one game for the Titans and completed 10 of 14 pass attempts for 99 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
