Titans QB Marcus Mariota Suffers Season-Ending Fractured Fibula

Update:

Titans HC Mike Mularkey announced after Sunday’s game that QB Marcus Mariota sustained a fractured fibula during and will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Tennessee later announced that Mariota will undergo surgery in the coming days.

Veteran QB Matt Cassell will finish the season as the team’s starting quarterback.

—————-

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has been carted off the field from Week 16’s game with an apparent ankle injury and had an air cast placed on his leg.

The Titans have already ruled out Mariota from returning to Saturday’s game with an ankle injury, so it will be interesting to see the issue’s level of severity.

Tennessee was in contention for a potential berth into the playoffs, making this clearly disappointing news as the season comes to a close.

Mariota, 23, is in the second year of his four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract that’s fully guaranteed. He is set to make a base salary of $1,535,635 this season to go along with another $2,636,270 next year.

Entering today’s game, Mariota appeared in 14 games and recorded 3,327 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also accumulated 346 rushing yards on 58 attempts with two touchdowns and five lost fumbles. ProFootballFocus rates Mariota as the No. 25 overall quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We will provide more information regarding Mariota and his injury as the news becomes available.
