Titans RB Bishop Sankey Drawing Interest From Other Teams?

Yesterday, Mike Reiss of ESPN wondered if the Titans would be willing to part ways with RB Bishop Sankey now that they traded for DeMarco Murray and drafted Derrick Henry in the second round.

Well, Rand Getlin reports that there has “definitely been interest” from teams other than the Patriots in Sankey.

Even though Sankey is just a few years removed from being a second-round pick of the Titans and the first running back to come off the board in the 2014 draft, he finds himself in a tough position to secure a roster spot with Tennessee’s depth at the position.

Outside of Murray and Henry, the Titans also have Dexter McCluster, Antonio Andrews and David Cobb on their roster fighting for jobs.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey has said that their depth has really increased the level of competition in offseason workouts.

“Bishop has done some good things out here,” said Mularkey. “It’s amazing the good competition that’s taken place at this position with two new backs. Everybody’s game has stepped up.”

However, barring a strong performance in training camp and the preseason, it’s possible the Titans could make Sankey available for trade or just waive him if they can’t find any offers.

Sankey, 23, was taken with the No. 54 overall pick by the Titans in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.843 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $769,408 and $944,112 over the next two years.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Sankey would free up $557,636 in available cap space while creating $490,590 in dead money.

In 2015, Sankey appeared in 13 games for the Titans and ran for 193 yards on 47 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 139 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
