Titans Re-Sign Veteran QB Matt Cassel To Two-Year, $5.25M Deal

The Tennessee Titans announced Thursday that they’ve agreed to terms with veteran QB Matt Cassel.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, Cassel receives a two-year contract worth $5.25 million that includes $2.75 million for the 2017 season.

Cassel will serve as Marcus Mariota‘s backup for the 2017 season.

Cassel, 34, is a former seventh-round pick of the Patriots back in 2005. He spent four years in New England before he was traded to the Chiefs after he was franchised.

Cassel lasted another four years in Kansas City before bouncing around as a backup for the Vikings and Cowboys. The Titans signed him to a one-year contract last year.

In 2016, Cassel appeared in four games and completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
