Titans Sign WR Rishard Matthews To One-Year Extension

Field Yates reports that the Titans have signed WR Rishard Matthews to agreed to a one-year extension through 2019.

  • According to Yates, the extension is really a team option with a base value of $7.75M for the 2019 season.
  • Paul Kuharsky adds that Matthews’ deal includes potential new money of close to $11 million in roster bonuses, incentives and performance escalators.

Matthews reportedly negotiated this adjustment to his contract himself.

Matthews was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. He’s currently on the Titans’ PUP list.

Matthews, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2012. He spent four years in Miami before signing a three-year, $15 million contract with the Titans in 2016.

Matthews stands to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2018 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Matthews appeared in 14 games for the Titans and caught 53 passes for 795 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. receiver out of qualifying players.
