Titans Still Negotiating A Contract Extension With DL Jurrell Casey

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Titans remain in negotiations with DL Jurrell Casey regarding a contract extension.

  • Wyatt adds that there still hasn’t been a breakthrough up to this point, but talks will continue nonetheless.

It will be interesting to see what new DC Ray Horton‘s plans are for Casey as it would seem like his pass-rushing ability could be tempered by having him eat up blocks in the new 3-4 defensive scheme. However, Casey has said that this isn’t the case.

Casey, 24, is entering the final year of his four-year, $2.732 million contract and will make a base salary of just $670,000 for the 2014 season.

He’s coming off of a season in which he was a second-team All-Pro selection. Last year, he totaled 54 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a recovery for the Titans defense over the course of 15 games.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 defensive tackle in the league, mainly due to his ability to apply pressure up the middle.
