Titans Waive QB Zach Mettenberger, Sign Four Players

Update:

Paul Kuharsky of ESPN reports that the Titans explored the trade market for backup QB Zach Mettenberger before placing him on waivers Monday. However, nothing materialized, according to Kuharsky.

Kuharsky adds that there could be multiple teams interested in him, but none were willing to part with even a seventh-round pick for him.

The Tennessee Titans announced Monday that they’ve placed QB Zach Mettenberger on waivers along with DE Iosia Iosia, TE Kevin Greene and WR Rashon Ceaser.

  • The Titans also signed FB Sam Bergen, WR Ben Roberts, DE Mike Smith and CB Bennett Okotcha to contracts.

There was some talk that Mettenberger could be on the roster bubble after the Titans signed Matt Cassel to contract, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Even so, it’s very possible some team claims him off of waivers tomorrow.

Mettenberger, 24, is a former sixth-round pick of the Titans back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.345 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Mettenberger appeared in seven games and threw for 935 yards while completing 60.8 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
