Titans Place WR Andre Johnson On Reserve/Retired List

Update:

The Tennessee Titans officially placed WR Andre Johnson on the reserve/retired list Tuesday.

This is really just a formality that ensures the Titans hold Johnson’s rights in the event he elects to come out of retirement and return to the NFL.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that Titans veteran WR Andre Johnson is retiring from the NFL.

  • According to Wilson, Johnson told his teammates in a team meeting this morning that he intends to retire from the NFL

Going back to his days at the University of Miami, Andre was one of the most impressive wide receivers I’ve scouted,” Titans General Manager Jon Robinson said in a statement. “He had a professional approach to the game both on and off the field and in my opinion is one of the best to have played the game. I enjoyed getting to know and work with him in his time with our team. He certainly contributed to this team – making the game-winning catch at Detroit and his daily interaction with the young wide receivers. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward in whatever endeavors he chooses.”

Johnson, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2003. He spent 12 years in Houston before signing on with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Johnson wound up being cut loose after one year and eventually signed on with the Titans.

In 2016, Johnson has appeared in eight games for the Titans and recorded nine receptions for 85 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

For his career, Johnson totaled 1,062 receptions for 14,185 yards receiving and 70 touchdowns over the course of 14 seasons. He was a 7-time Pro Bowl selection and made two All-Pro first teams.
