TRADE: Browns Trading QB Cody Kessler To Jaguars

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns are trading backup QB Cody Kessler to the Jaguars on Wednesday for a 2019 conditional seventh-round draft pick.

  • According to Mike Kaye, Kessler needs to be on the Jaguars’ 46-man roster for six games in order for the Browns to receive the 2019 seventh-round pick.

The Browns have already confirmed the move:

Yesterday, Rapoport reported that the Browns were expected to shop Kessler for trade offers after signing Drew Stanton to a contract to be Tyrod Taylor‘s backup and it looks like they found a taker in the Jaguars.

This is the second trade for the Browns involving a backup after they sent DeShone Kizer to the Packers a few weeks ago.

Kessler, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2016. He’s in the third year of his four-year, $3.3 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $758,098 and $912,147 over the final two years of the agreement.

For his career, Kessler has thrown for 1,506 yards while completing 63.8 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and three interceptions over the course of 12 games.
