TRADE: Jets Trade S Calvin Pryor To Browns For LB Demario Davis

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade LB Demario Davis to the Jets in return for S Calvin Pryor.

Calvin is a young-experienced safety that has upside,” said Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown. “We are pleased to be able to add him to our defensive back room and just like every player we acquire, we expect him to come in with a hard-working mindset ready to compete. Demario is a guy that we developed the utmost respect for in his time with our team, not only as a professional but also as a person. We appreciate all he did for our organization in his time in Cleveland.

Pryor, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $8.56 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,587,717 for the 2017 season.

The Jets declined to pick up Pryor’s fifth-year option last month.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Pryor would free up $1,587,717 of available cap space while creating $1,136,955 in dead money.

In 2016, Pryor appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 62 tackles, no interceptions, a forced fumble and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 73 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

Davis, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Jets back in 2012. He spent four years in New York before signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the Browns that included $4.2 million guaranteed last year.

Davis stands to make a base salary of $3.7 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Davis appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 99 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
