Trade Market Could Develop For Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Bay Tribune writes that the expectation around the league is that NFL teams will make some calls to the Buccaneers regarding the availability of QB Mike Glennon.

According to Cummings, several teams reached out the Bucs last year about Glennon, but they ultimately elected to hold onto the young quarterback.

The overall expectation right now is that the Buccaneers will use their No. 1 overall pick on either Florida State QB Jameis Winston or Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, which would likely leave Glennon as an expendable player.

The good news for the Buccaneers is that this year’s free agent class is extremely limited in terms of available quarterbacks. Beyond that, the 2015 draft class may not offer much beyond Winston and Mariota when it comes to quarterback prospects, so this could create a decent market for someone like Glennon.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan spoke to an NFL general manager who agreed that Glennon could generate some interest quarterback-needy teams in the coming months.

“He said that the tape wasn’t great on Glennon from last season, but (he pointed out that) he’s got (two years) left on his contract and the Bucs aren’t paying him a lot ($1.4 million through 2016),’’ Caplan said. “He said that’s a guy you have to take a look at (if you’re a team in need of a quarterback).’

Cummings suggests that even if there some interest in Glennon, it’s unlikely that he would net them anymore than a fourth- or fifth-round draft pick.

Glennon, 25, still has another two years remaining on his  Signed a four-year, $3.104 million rookie contract, which includes base salaries of  $687,188 (2015) and $675,000 (2016).

In 2014, Glennon appeared in six games for the Buccaneers and threw for 1,417 yards while completing 57.6 percent of his passes to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Interestingly enough, Pro Football Focus rated Glennon as the No. 19 quarterback in the league this past season, while Josh McCown came in at No. 34 out of 39 qualifying players.
