Trade Market Could Develop For RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis?

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “don’t be shocked if a market emerges for BenJarvus Green-Ellis in the coming week.

Florio mentions that the Bengals have already used two second-round picks on running backs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill, which could leave Green-Ellis as an expensive No. 3 option as they head into the season.

There has been speculation that Green-Ellis could be on the chopping block, but Florio believes Cincinnati could try to trade the veteran back before releasing him outright.

We’ve already seen a few teams — the 49ers (Kendall Hunter), Colts (Vick Ballard) and Panthers (rookie Tyler Gaffney) — lose running backs for the season, so there is at least a chance someone could have interest in Green-Ellis.

However, NFL teams may not be willing to take on his his current salary, and could instead wait to see if the Bengals cut him loose.

Should the Bengals decide to release Green-Ellis, they would gain $2.5 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

Green-Ellis, 28, is entering the final year of his three-year, $9 million contract and will make $2.3 million for the upcoming season. Last year, averaged just 3.4 yards-per-carry on 220 attempts and ran for 756 yards and seven touchdowns.
