Trade Rumors: Chargers, Falcons, Jets, Patriots, & Ravens

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports has the latest regarding potential trades that could take place ahead of next week’s deadline.

Chargers

  • According to La Canfora, executives around the league thought there was a chance that the Chargers could trade Pro Bowl S Eric Weddle, but the fact that he’s dealing with an injury will likely prevent him from being moved by Tuesday.
  • The Chargers are reportedly among the teams resistant to become sellers and make their veteran players available for draft picks.

Falcons & Jets

  • La Canfora mentions that the Falcons and Jets are among the teams that could be open to making a trade to improve their roster, now that they’re in the hunt for a playoff spot.
  • La Canfora’s sources specifically mentioned that both teams could be looking for tight end or pass rushing help.
  • However, La Canfora admits that teams looking to trade a veteran player at this point in the year are typically looking for a better draft pick than what they could get in terms of a compensatory selection the following year.

Patriots

  • La Canfora believes the Patriots could, once again, be in the market for roster upgrades at the trade deadline, as they’ve been among the most teams in recent years.
  • According to La Canfora, New England’s recent offensive-line injuries could possibly lead to them acquiring some O-line help next week.

Ravens

  • The Ravens are reportedly among the teams resistant to become sellers and make their veteran players available for draft picks.
  • La Canfora reports that several teams have shown interest in veterans like WR Steve Smith and OLB Elvis Dumervil, but Baltimore is considered “highly unlikely” to trade either player.
