Trent Cole Entering His Final Season With The Eagles?

According to Martin Frank of the Delaware County Times, believes veteran OLB Trent Cole could be entering his final season with the Eagles.

Cole was forced to change positions after Philadelphia brought in Chip Kelly as their new head coach. On top of that, the Eagles used their first-round pick on Louisville DE/OLB Marcus Smith, so it’s not a stretch to suggest that they have high hopes for him moving forward.

Cole is entering his 10th season in the NFL, and although he’s aware of his situation, he would like to play another three years in the league.

You want to know the truth? I feel really good,” Cole said. “Ain’t nothing changed. I’m more experienced and I know a lot more. Everybody says, ‘He’s getting old because he’s on this side of 30.’

“Man, I’ve got three years left. At least give me three years.

Cole, 31, will make $5 million for the 2014 season and no longer has any guaranteed money remaining on his contract. The Eagles have him under team control through the 2017 season, but his salaries will sore to $10 million in the final three years of his deal.

Last year, Cole recorded 55 tackles, eight sacks, and three forced fumbles in 2013. Pro Football Focus even rated him as the No. 7 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

Cole offers versatility as he had played well as a defensive end in 4-3 as well, so if he ends up being available next, I’m sure there could be a decent enough market for him depending on his asking price.
