Report: 49ers & Seahawks Also Interested In OLB Trent Cole

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers and Seahawks are both interested in former Eagles OLB Trent Cole

Barrows mentions that the 49ers could part ways with veteran OLB Ahmad Brooks, which would leave them in the market for another edge rusher.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported this morning that Cole will visit with the Buccaneers, so there is already a solid market forming for his services.

  • Caplan had said previously that Cole could end up with a team that employs a 4-3 defense, which happens to be his old position.
  • Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported on Tuesday that Cole was expected to draw interest from “several” teams in the coming days, after news broke that the Eagles were releasing him.
  • Sources tell La Canfora that the 49ers and Jets are two teams to keep an eye on for Cole in the coming days.

The Eagles said that they haven’t closed the door on bringing Cole back either.

Cole, 32, recorded 52 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 19 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system out of 46 qualifying players.

We’ll have more updates regarding Cole and potential landing spots as the news is available.
