Two Teams Interested In Free Agent CB Darrelle Revis, But Price Is An Issue

Jason Cole of B/R reports that two cornerback-needy teams are interested in signing free agent CB Darrelle Revis but neither is willing to pay more the $6 million in guaranteed money owed to him by the Jets.

Revis’ previous contract contains offset language, so he would essentially have to agree to play for no additional money than what he’s already making from the Jets.Cole says that both teams feel it is unlikely they could convince Revis to play for just the $6 million he is guaranteed.

According to Cole, the two teams ultimately believe it will be tough to convince Revis to play in 2017, considering that he’s in line to be paid a good salary already.

Revis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He was entering the third year of his five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $13 million for the 2017 season when he was released by the Jets.

In 2016, Revis appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 53 tackles, one interception and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
