Tyrod Taylor Expected To Be “Very Viable Trade Chip” For Bills Next Year

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will be a “very viable trade chip” in 2018 based on his conversations with numerous NFL executives.

According to La Canfora, sources around the NFL anticipate Taylor being traded at some point next year.

Taylor was benched last week in favor of rookie QB Nathan Peterman, which has clearly cast doubt on his future in Buffalo.

La Canfora mentions that Taylor is owed a $6M roster bonus in the first week of free agency, but NFL GMs around the league view his contract that includes a $10 million base salary as tradeable.

Some teams to watch for Taylor, according to La Canfora, include  Jaguars, Broncos, Cardinals and Saints (if Drew Brees leaves as a free agent).

La Canfora points out that while teams could wait for the Bills to release him, it might make more sense to acquire him in a trade and prevent other teams from getting involved.

Another traded candidate for the Bills next year could be LT Cordy Glenn, who was mentioned in trade rumors leading up to this year’s deadline.

As for the Bills keeping Taylor as a backup option, La Canfora says that it isn’t feasible for Buffalo considering the $16 million he’s owed.

Taylor, 28, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. After four years in Baltimore, Taylor signed on with the Bills for the 2015 season.

Taylor is currently in the first year of his two-year, $30.5 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $7.5 million and $10 million.

In 2017, Taylor has appeared in nine games and thrown for 1,684 yards while completing 64.2 percent of his passes to go along with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Taylor and his future as the news is available.
