Report: Dolphins Open To Adding A LT & RT If The Price Is Right

Armando Salguero has been informed that the Dolphins open to signing LT Bryant McKinnie as well a veteran right tackle. Salguero adds that the Dolphins would only do this if someone was willing to accept a cheap, one-year contract.

McKinnie has reportedly received a contract offer from the Chargers and the Ravens are believed to have interest in retaining him as well. Meanwhile, the Dolphis have met with Eric Winston, Tyson Clabo, and Winston Justice, but there’s at least a chance that one of them would be willing to sign a one-year contract now that the market has really slowed down.

The Cowboys have also shown some interest in possibly adding a right tackle at some point. We have Clabo, Winston and McKinnie all listed in our recently updated Best Available Free Agents list.

Jason La Canfora reports that the Dolphins will host free agent RT Tyson Clabo on Tuesday.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland told reporters following the draft they were likely to add a veteran tackle at some point and they Bryant McKinnie visited with the team on Monday.

Eric Winston is also believed to be an option for Miami as well. What is still somewhat confusing is the fact that the Dolphins are clearly in need of help at left tackle, but both Clabo and Winston are strictly right tackles.

McKinnie, 34, played left tackle for the Ravens during their Super Bowl run, so he actually makes more sense for them on paper. With that being said, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald finds it “hard to believe” that the Dolphins have genuine interest in McKinnie.

Salguero mentions that this could be an attempt for the Dolphins to build some leverage with the Chiefs in trade talks for LT Branden Albert, which could still be an option for them even after they chose not to trade either or their 2013 second-round picks.

McKinnie is on his way to meet with the Chargers, so the market offensive tackles is clearly starting to pick up now that the draft has passed.
