Update: Bears Backup QB Search

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora has an update on the Bears backup quarterback search. Todd Collins has become the latest QB to turn down the Bears. Apparently the Bears were not willing to offer Collins any guaranteed money which was the deal breaker.

Maybe a call to Jeff Garcia is in order.

With the recent injury to Caleb Hanie, the Bears are now searching for a backup quarterback. The problem is that the available options aren’t all that great compared to early on in the off-season. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears have reached out to Trent Green about the position but were turned down.

“His heart says yes, and his emotions say yes. But it’s time to stay right where he is,” said Green’s agent Jim Steiner.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune adds that the Bears have moved on to Todd Collins, the former Redskins quarterback. He also added that Josh McCown will not be joining the Bears despite early speculation that he be a good fit for Mike Martz’s system.
