Update: Sidney Rice out for half of the season

Things could be getting worse foe the Vikings. Head Coach Brad Childress mentioned that there is a possibility that Sidney Rice could be place on injured reserve, which would cost him all of the 2010 season.

Childress also suggested that the problem may have been cause “because of inactivity” during the teams mini-camp in June.

Early this morning there was a report from Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that talked about the possibility of Sidney Rice undergoing hip surgery. Well, in that short period of time Rice has undergone hip surgery which will leave him shelved for roughly half of the upcoming season.

The interesting thing about Rice’s injury, is that he managed to play through it during the offseason and has even quoted as saying that he would be “ready to go” for training camp. The Vikings should be suspicious of the sudden events since Rice had been looking for a new contract but the team wasn’t willing to get anything done as of right now.

The Vikings are left with very little wide receiver depth not that Rice will miss some time. The recent signing of Javon Walker could help but it’s pretty unlikely that he will be as productive as Rice was last season.
