Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Media has spoken to several sources close to USC QB Sam Darnold, who wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed two more seasons in college before entering the NFL draft.
This comes as a surprise, considering that Darnold is widely considered to be one of, in fact, the top quarterback prospects in the entire country and a likely first-round pick next year.
However, it appears as though there’s at least a chance he could return to Southern California instead of entering the 2018 draft.
Darnold is currently working with Jordan Palmer to shorten his throwing motion for the upcoming season.
“His circle is, when your hands come apart, the ball comes down a little bit, and then it starts to come back up and then it goes all the way up behind your head and it goes forward when you throw,” Palmer said, via Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register. “Right now, Sam’s circle is bigger than it needs to be.
“I’m not overhauling or changing anything,” Palmer added. “I’m just trying to help him make something more efficient.”
Darnold, 20, is currently a sophomore at USC. He led the Trojans to a Rose Bowl victory over Penn State and was Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
Last season, Darnold threw for 3,086 yards while completing 67.2 percent of his passes to go along with 31 touchdowns and nine interceptions for USC over the course of 13 games. He also rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
