Veteran CB Antonio Cromartie May Have Played His Last Down Due Hip Issues?

Update:

Veteran CB Antonio Cromartie tells Manish Mehta that he isn’t considering retirement, and his hip wasn’t an issue for him last year.

Hell, no. I’m not done,“Cormartie said. “My hip wasn’t the problem last year.”

Cromartie also tweeted:

According to Mehta, Cromartie was dealing with a groin injury last season, not a hip issue.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent CB Antonio Cromartie may have played his last down in the NFL, due to lingering hip concerns.

Cromartie hasn’t found any reported interest since he became available several months ago. Although, Jets HC Todd Bowles didn’t rule out the possibility of re-signing Cormartie at some point, depending on what happens this summer.

The Dolphins were tossed out as a potential option, but Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald later reported that Miami is pursuing him.

Cromartie also said that he would be interested in playing for the Cowboys, but they too haven’t shown any interest.

Cromartie, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2006. He spent four years in San Diego before he was traded to the Jets. After one year in Arizona, Cromartie later returned to the Jets for the 2015 season.

Cromartie was in the second year of his four-year, $32 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed when he was released in a move that freed up $8 million in available cap space for the Jets.

In 2015, Cromartie appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 29 tackles, a fumble recovery and 12 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 86 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
