Veteran DL Jared Odrick Could Be Option For Giants If They Don’t Re-Sign Johnathan Hankins

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that if the Giants don’t re-sign DT Johnathan Hankins, free agent DL Jared Odrick is someone to watch for New York.

According to Rapoport, Odrick passed a physical during his visit with the Patriots and plans to take more visits in the coming weeks.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Odrick to a contract won’t impact a team’s compensatory picks, considering that he was released.

Odrick, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2010. He spent five years in Miami before he signed a five-year, $42.5 million contract with $22 million guaranteed with the Jaguars in 2015.

Odrick was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2017 season when he was released in a move that freed up $8.5 million of available cap space for the Jaguars.

In 2016, Odrick was limited to appearing in just six games for the Jaguars and recorded 12 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 91 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
