Veteran DL Mike DeVito Announces His Retirement From NFL

Veteran DL Mike DeVito announced Monday that he’s retiring from the NFL.

There are more important things in life than football,” DeVito said in his announcement, via the Bangor Daily News. “As hard as it is to say goodbye to the game that has made me the man I am, I cannot wait for the second half of this journey through life.

“I want to thank the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs and all the amazing people I have met throughout my career. To all my family, friends, and fans, thank you for making an average player feel like a hall of famer. And to the game of football, thank you for the past 18 years, all the memories, and the lessons that will continue to serve me for the rest of my life.

DeVito, 31, wound up signing on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Maine back in 2007. He spent six years with the Jets before signing on with the Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

Over the course of his nine-year, NFL career, DeVito recorded 157 tackles, 5.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, three recoveries, and three pass defenses.
