Veteran G Josh Sitton Already Generating Interest From Teams Several Teams

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, veteran G Josh Sitton is already generating interest from teams in the “double-digits.”

Sources have told Robinson that “nothing crazy happened” between the Packers and Sitton. Green Bay knew Sitton was unhappy they had yet to get a long-term extension in place and ultimately decided to move on.

A personnel guy mentioned that the Packers have a threshold for what they pay for certain positions, and weren’t going to deviate from that, per Robinson.

Robinson considers it unlikely Sitton is on market for a while, considering that NFL scouts say he has superb toughness and leadership traits.

Sitton’s agent, Jack Reale, tells Josina Anderson of his client’s impending release: “I’m very optimistic of his prospects for playing for a number of additional years. He’s coming off of maybe his best camp in the last four years. He’s lighter, and he is in better shape. He is coming off of a Pro Bowl season and he just turned 30. I think he’s got lots left. I think all the teams that he has been playing against for the last several years are certainly aware of that and certainly teams within their division. So we will see what happens.

The Packers are in a tough position long-term in regards to their offensive line with a number of starters set to be free agents, but it’s still a very surprising move for Green Bay.

Sitton, 30, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He was in the final year of his six-year, $34.95 million contract that includes $8.9 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $5.9 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Sitton appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 6 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
