Veteran LB A.J. Hawk Says He’d Still Like To Play In 2016 For Right Team

Free agent LB A.J. Hawk mentioned in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he would “definitely” like to play this season.

However, Hawk added that it would have to be “the right situation” and with “a team that can win.”

The Bengals released Hawk back in April and he hasn’t found any reported interest as a free agent since he became available. It’s possible that it could take a few injuries before Hawk gets another look from an NFL team.

Hawk, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2006. After nine years in Green Bay, Hawk signed two-year, $3.25 million contract with the Bengals last year and was set to make a base salary of $1.1 million for the 2016 season.

However, the Bengals elected to move on and released him in a move that cleared $1.4 million in available cap space.

In 2015, Hawk appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded 24 tackles and sack. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
