Falcons Likely To Re-Sign Veteran LB O’Brien Schofield On Thursday

D. Orlando Ledbetter, citing a team official, reports that the Falcons are likely to sign veteran LB O’Brien Schofield on Thursday.

This comes less than a day after Schofield told Vaughn McClure that he expects to re-sign with the Falcons at some point this week. Paperwork not official yet but it’s.

According to McClure, Schofield will likely play SAM linebacker for the Falcons once an agreement is in place.

The Jets and Patriots both worked Schofield out in recent months, but there has been talk that a return to Atlanta was a possibility for him.

Schofield, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2010. He spent three years in Arizona before signing on with the Seahawks in 2013.

Schofield later followed Dan Quinn to Atlanta and signed a one-year contract with the Falcons last year.

In 2015, Schofield appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 29 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding the Falcons and Schofield as the news is available.
