According to Vincent Bonsignore of the L.A. Times, free agent S Donte Whitner is “still in play” for the Rams, despite their recent meeting with veteran S Dashon Goldson.
Whitner visited with the Rams close to a month ago, but there hasn’t been any buzz about him since then.
Whitner, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2006. After five years with the Bills, Whitner signed on with the 49ers and later joined the Browns in 2014.
He was in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract when he was cut loose by the Browns back in April.
In 2015, Whitner appeared in 14 games and recorded 81 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, no interceptions and four pass defenses for the Browns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
