Veteran WR Anquan Boldin Will Return For 15th Season In NFL, Currently A Free Agent

Jim Trotter of ESPN reports that veteran WR Anquan Boldin plans to return for his 15th season in the NFL after taking some time to mull over his future.

Boldin mentioned over a month ago that he wanted to speak to his family about possibly retiring from the NFL.

“We’ll see what’s best for us,” Boldin said, via the Detroit Free Press. “It’s no longer what’s best for Anquan. I’ve got three others that depend on me as well.

Boldin is currently an unrestricted free agent, but he said previously there’s “definitely interest” in re-signing with the Lions if he decides to play another year.

“There’s definitely interest there,” Boldin said. “But for me, it’s seeing what opportunities lie there and going over it with my wife because any decision that I make is not just affect me. It affects me, my wife, my two boys. It’s something that I have to take into consideration.

Boldin, 36, is a former second-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2003. He spent seven years in Arizona before being traded to the Ravens in 2010. Baltimore later traded him to the 49ers where’s he’s remained for the past three seasons.

Boldin finished out his two-year, $12 million contract with the Ravens before signing a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Lions last July.

In 2016, Boldin appeared in 16 games for the Lions and caught 67 passes for 584 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 70 overall receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
