Veteran WR Griff Whalen Clears Waivers, Now A Free Agent

Veteran WR Griff Whalen officially passed through waivers unclaimed on Friday and is now free to sign on with a team of his choosing.

Whalen, 26, signed on with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in 2012. He spent his enter career in Indianapolis before he was placed on injured reserve and later waived from the list back in January.

The Dolphins later signed him to a contract this past March only to cut him loose at the start of the season. Whalen caught on with the Chargers a few weeks later. San Diego cut Whalen loose not long after.

The Patriots just recently signed him to a contract before cutting him loose to make WR Michael Floyd, who was claimed off of waivers from the Cardinals on Thursday.

In 2016, Whalen has appeared in eight games and caught two passes for 22 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Chargers.
