Veteran WR Roddy White Still Wants To Play In 2016, Says He Was “Miserable” With Falcons Last Year

Former Falcons WR Roddy White confirmed in an interview with 92.9 The Game that he still wants to play in 2016, especially if an opportunity to join a contending team arises.

Yeah, yeah, yeah… I still wanna play,” White said, via CBS Atlanta.“ I’ve been going through my opportunities and the things me and my agent been going over, you know, and just fielding phone calls and seeing what I wanna do, what I don’t wanna do at this point in my career. I just wanna win. I wanna play for a winner, so, you know, if it comes down to it and I have to wait… to get on a team that’s winning, then I’ll do that.”

White added that he still feels like he can play at a high level, even though the Falcons reduced his role last year.

“I’ve been talking to teams about what my role would be and what they want me to do and what I know I can still do,” White said. “I feel like I can still play at a high level. That’s going to determine where I go and where I play next year.

Regarding the Falcons’ decision to release him, White said he was “miserable” last year.

Being released wasn’t a bad thing for me, because I wasn’t going to be on that team and accept the same role the following year, or then I would have self-destructed around there,” White said. “I would have went crazy if I would have had to go through that another year.” He continued, “I can’t play football like that, I was miserable.”

White, 34, was entering the third year of his four-year, $30 million contract when the Falcons released him in a move that freed up $2,362,500 in cap space.

In 2015, White appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and caught 43 passes for 506 yards receiving and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 105 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.
