Vick Injured, Garcia As A Backup?

Update: Eagles head coach Andy Reid mentioned that Michael Vick has a rib cartilage injury and not a broken rib during his Monday press conference. He also said that RB LeSean McCoy suffered a broken rib.

The NFL Networks Jason La Canfora tweets that the Reid will consider signing a backup quarterback.

Eagles QB Michael Vick was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Eagles after being on the receiving end of a crushing hit by DeAngelo Hall and Kareem Moore.

Early reports suggested that Vick’s injury could be a hairline collarbone fracture but thankfully for the Eagles x-rays were negative. Vick will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury sometime today. Ashley Fox of the Philadelphia Inquirer mentioned that Vick was in obvious pain when trying to put on a dress shirt in the locker room after yesterdays game.

Kevin Kolb came into the game and wasn’t all that productive despite throwing a touchdown to TE Brent Celek. The Eagles will have to prepare Kolb to be their starting quarterback against the 49ers next weekend.

Soon after the injury to Michael Vick, rumors began to circulate that Jeff Garcia could be brought in to provide some depth at quarterback. The Eagles may not be the only team interested in Garcia. The Cardinals, Bills, and Bengals all have very little depth at quarterback and are dealing with poor play at the position.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter responded to the rumors by saying, “I like Garcia, always have. But teams … not so much. He was unemployed last season and could not find work this offseason. I’d give him a chance. Teams, though, have balked.”
