Victor Cruz Looking For $10M – $11M Annually In His Next Contract?

According to Ralph Vacchiano New York Daily News, Giants WR Victor Cruz was asking for as much as $10 million – $11 million per year during the previous negotiations.

New York reportedly offered Cruz a deal that would have paid him $7 million annually and included $20 million guarantees, but that obviously falls short of the kind of money that he’s believed to be seeking.

For the sake of comparison, here are the recent contracts signed by Dwayne Bowe, Percy Harvin and Mike Wallace.

  • Bowe: five-year, $56 million total, $26 million guaranteed.
  • Harvin: six-year, $67 million total, $25.5 million guaranteed.
  • Wallace: five-year, $60 million total, $30 million guaranteed.

Cruz, 26, is reportedly seeking less in terms of both guarantees and total dollars. The problem for him could be that he’s primarily a slot-receiver and the market value for this position has been considerably less in recent years.

The Giants placed a first-round tender on him back in March, so unless the two sides are able to finalize an extension in the coming weeks, it seems likely that he’ll be forced to play under his $2.879 million tender.

It’s also worth noting that Cruz is expected to leave his current representation in favor of joining Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports.
