Around 10 Teams Including Vikings Reportedly Doing Due Diligence On Nick Foles

Update:

Darren Wolfson reports that there are 10 or so teams, including the Vikings doing their due diligence on free agent QB Nick Foles.

  • According to Wolfson, Foles isn’t close to signing with a new team and plans to lay low for a few days.
  • Patrick Reusse is “hearing” Foles has been promised a chance to compete for the starting job should he sign with the Vikings.

Jason Cole of B/R reports that the Vikings, Cowboys and Bills are all looking to upgrade at the backup quarterback spot and are expected to have interest in free agent QB Nick Foles.

However, Cole says that Foles is likely to sign a short-term contract in order to keep the open option down the line for him to get another shot at being a starter in the NFL.

  • Earlier in the day, a source told Vic Carucci that the Bills are not among teams interested in signing Foles.

A source tells Jason Cole of B/R that the Vikings, Bills and Cowboys are three of the teams to watch for free agent QB Nick Foles.

According to Cole, the Jets have also expressed interest in Foles. However, you have to wonder whether they are really a serious option now that they’ve re-signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year, $12 million deal.

It appears as though the market for Foles could be up quite a bit over the next few days.

The Cowboys and Bills could both use a veteran backup, while the Vikings currently have Shaun Hill behind Teddy Bridgewater.

The Rams wound up cutting Foles loose on Wednesday after he reportedly requested to be released.

Foles, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. After three years in Philadelphia, Foles was sent to the Rams in a trade from the Eagles that shipped Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. He had one year remaining on his rookie contract when the Rams signed him to a two-year, $24 million extension back in August of last year.

In 2015, Foles completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
