Vikings CB Terence Newman Says 2018 Will Be His Final Season

Vikings veteran CB Terence Newman told reporters on Tuesday that 2018 will likely be his final year in the NFL.

“I think this will be my last year no matter what happens,’’ Newman said, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “After 15 years, I’ve soaked as much as I can in. It’s been a heck of a ride. I understand when it’s time for me. I’m not going to put an onus on doing anything special.

Reports had said that the Vikings were interested in bringing Newman back, and even though they used their first-round pick on CB Mike Hughes, they elected to re-sign him on Monday.

Newman, 39, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2003. He spent nine years in Dallas before joining the Bengals in 2012.

Newman later caught on with the Vikings and played out the 2017 season on a one-year, $3.25 million contract before agreeing to a new deal this offseason.

In 2017, Newman appeared in 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 35 tackles, one interception, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
