Vikings Pick Up CB Trae Waynes’ Fifth-Year Option

The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday that they’ve picked up CB Trae Waynes‘ fifth-year option.

The fifth-year option will cost Minnesota $9,069,000 for the 2019 season. It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

Waynes, 25, is a former first-round pick out of Michigan State by the Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $12.944 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed.

In 2017, Waynes appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 65 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and 11 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 69 overall cornerback out of 121 qualifying players.
