Vikings Worked Out Veteran OT Jake Long

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer announced that they brought in free agent OT Jake Long for a workout this morning, but he said they’re unsure if they’ll sign him to a contract at this point.

  • Darren Wolfson mentions that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikings signed him to a contract in the coming days.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN first reported that the Vikings were expected to consider signing Long, among other players, to a contract this week. Mortensen mentioned that Long has a history with Vikings’ offensive line coach Tony Sparano from their time together in Miami.

The Vikings continue to deal with injuries to their offensive line and Long is among the best available options. However, there have been some concerns about his healthy, particularly his knee.

The Ravens nearly signed Long to a contract but later passed on doing so after Long declined to sign an injury waiver.

Long previously mentioned that he’s “100 percent confident” he will be playing in 2016.

[I’ve been] working out everyday and feeling strong,” Long said, via Sirius XM NFL Radio. “This is the healthiest I’ve felt in a very long time. Knee feels great.”

Long, 31, is a former No. 1 overall pick by the Dolphins back in 2008. He spent five years in Miami before signing on with the Rams as an unrestricted free agent during the 2013 offseason.

Long has unfortunately dealt with multiple ACL tears over the past few years, which led to him signing a one-year deal with the Falcons last year as a reserve lineman.

In 2015, Long was limited to appearing in just four games for the Falcons, playing nine total snaps.
